ABBEYFIELD ESK MOORS SOCIETY

GOOD NEWS FOR OLDER PEOPLE !

The ABBEYFIELD ESK MOORS SOCIETY was set up in 1999 by a group of local residents from the Upper Esk Valley. There is scant provision for older residents of the valley to remain in the valley when they become unable to manage by themselves or when, often by the loss of husband or wife, they become lonely, so having lived many years here, they have to leave familiar surroundings, their friends, their doctor and their minister. So the society was formed. The Executive Committee consists of 15 residents of the valley. The Chairman is Mrs. Linda Lloyd of Castleton.

Great North Run 18th September 2005

Antony Woods is running the Great North Run (half marathon) to raise funds for Abbeyfield UK – Esk Moors Society. This is a charity established by a team of dedicated local volunteers, almost ten years ago, to build and run a much-needed community centre and care home for elderly people in the North Yorkshire Moors. It is a beautiful part of the world, where Antony was born and raised, but it is deprived of facilities for elderly people, most of whom may end up in institutions, a long way from home.

THE TEAM NEED TO RAISE A FURTHER £250,000 TO MAKE THIS PROJECT HAPPEN.

If you are happy to support this effort, please either send Antony an email antony.woods@smiths-group.com indicating how much you are prepared to donate or pledge, or better still, send a cheque made payable to “Abbeyfield” to Rosedale Intake, Danby, Whitby, North Yorkshire YO21 2LX. Unfortunately being a small charity it is not set up to receive credit card payments.

IMPORTANTLY, please also indicate whether you are happy to gift aid your donation, which means that for every £10 donated, the charity gets £12.80. Everybody who pays income tax is eligible, and it makes a huge difference to the charity.

Antony is unlikely to attempt anything like this again so he is begging for your hard earned cash for this very special project.
