Local sites In and around AinthorpeDanby Rigg is dotted with many ancient remains and the ancient remains of Danby Castle lie to the East of Ainthorpe. High on Danby Rigg you will discover Jack Sledge Road which in modern terms would be called a path, bridleways and foot paths, with dykes, cairns, a standing stone and enclosure and the remains of a long abandoned settlement and field system. Nearby Botton Hall (a village) is well worth a visit. Operated by the Camphill Trust which assists handicapped people, visitors are welcome and crafts, books and home produced produce can normally be purchased. |
